Founded in 2020, The University of Integrative Medicine is accredited by GCASM and is private 501(c3) Non-profit educational research University held in a global humanitarian research trust.
We are the global leader in Integrative Medicine Education and Research. Our university has established the standards for the application, education and most importantly, research for the healing arts of the future. While it is important to have specialists in every field, integrative medicine focuses on the health and wellness of the totality of the person first and foremost. This includes the mind, body, soul, spirit, environment, social systems and community. It is impossible to isolate one from the others and hope to effectively address health challenges of individuals who seek help and guidance. Guiding and teaching healers to effectively provide care/ counseling to the whole person is our goal.
Integrative Medicine is the medicine of the future. It is the evolutionary model of healing; one which addresses all variables of the health equation. It is the most efficient combination of all time tested tools and the current conventional medicine model. This system takes into account not only therapies and interventions which are currently available, but combines these with the concepts and practices of naturopathic, complementary, indigenous, spiritual and other health care systems as well. It is finally time that they begin to come together under one roof. Now they have. They have found their home in the U.I.M.
Good medicine and healing is based on science and good science is inquiry driven. For this to take place there must be ongoing research. Science is the intellectual study of the structure of behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. Research is a systematic investigation into, and study of materials and services in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. The art of healing is, or should be, science-based. Therefore, the inquiry basis of Integrative Medicine is supported and satisfied by the findings of research.
• Being that we are a research institution, all aspects of individuals who are trained and certified through the U.I.M. become engaged in research at all times. Our healers are researchers at the highest level; that which strives to bring harmony to the mind, body, spirit and soul domain. While designed to benefit those receiving care/counseling, research is generally designed and intended to benefit future generations. There is no reason why both should not benefit. While the Research Physicians sincere goal is humanitarian and healing by nature, the data gathered from his/her healing art will be of benefit to those who are not only currently under care/counseling but for others in the future.
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus stated “the only constant in life is change“. This concept is highly applicable to the medical and healing model; which needs to be acknowledged and respected. The philosophy and model of healing is vastly different now than it was in the times of Hippocrates, Maimonides, Avicenna and other great leaders in the healing arts. The healing model is an entity which is constantly evolving and adapting not only to challenges of the environment (both inner and outer), but to the needs of the times. Organizations have assumed the authority and responsibility to establish standards for practice. These have been termed “standards of care“. It is highly probable that the standard of care of today will no longer be applicable tomorrow. This is a work in progress which is highly influenced by social, environmental, economic, political and other variables. Guidelines and recommendations for acceptable practice in the years gone by have been replaced with more efficient, effective and hopefully safer practices today. In fact, many of the practices and standards by which physicians and other healthcare providers were expected to adhere to, comply with, and not deviate from are outdated, and some even banned and even seen as a deviation from standard of current practice. Many have even been shown to be harmful to human health. No doubt that at least some of today’s practices will go the same way. Healing is both an art and science, and the standards and guidelines established can be considered a work in progress. Therefore, it is important that we welcome, embrace and be part of this evolutionary process. This is why the Integrative Medicine model is so important today.
